Travel for Self-Discovery: What a Missed Flight to Costa Rica Taught Me

There are endless reasons I believe traveling is crucial to your self-discovery journey. The main one being that it gets you out of your comfort zone.

Getting out of your comfort zone is KEY to self discovery!

Who are you without the comforts of everyday life?

Who are you when your flight gets delayed over and over and eventually canceled?

Who are you when your luggage ends up in a different state than you?

Are you going to freak the f*ck out?

Are you going to be mad, pissed off, & yell at the gate agent?

OR

Are you going to remain calm and find a solution?

Are you going to feed yourself, maybe grab a beer, relax, and book yourself a hotel?

Are you going to find solutions or play victim until the day you die?

So, yes, this all happened to me on my first trip to Costa Rica in 2024. Well, the first trip of my adult life.

The plan was to fly from Phoenix to Dallas and then to Liberia, Costa Rica. My flight from Phoenix to Dallas was delayed so I missed the connecting flight. There aren't many flights to Costa Rica so they were going to send us to Miami and then Costa Rica.

Allllll day my flight got delayed and changed until about 10PM when it was finally canceled. I had checked my suitcase so all I had on me was my laptop, my oracle cards (thank god), my crystal singing bowls, a packing cube full of underwear (also thank god), and a pair of workout shorts.

I was definitely upset but I am super proud of how I handled the situation. Shit happens. Life will go on.

So I booked myself a hotel. Washed my clothes in the sink. & slept butt a$$ naked because I had nothing else to wear 😅 The next morning I learned I should have left my clothes dirty because they were still wet in the morning and I had nothing to wear to the laundry room to put them in the dryer 😂

I also learned that I am able to stay (mostly) calm, cool, and collected when shit hits the fan. I was able to take this experience and learn sooo much from it. Good thing, because this was only the first of many many tests the jungle had for me during that trip.

Stay tuned for more 😇
