7 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Purchasing a Gong | Grotta Sonora Gong

1️⃣ Where am I going to buy my gong from?

There are tons of options… Facebook marketplace, Gongs Unlimited, local shops, etc. I highly recommend hearing the gong in person before buying one if possible. Gongs truly have their own personality. It’s not like buying something from Amazon. You should feel deeply connected to your gong, in my opinion.

2️⃣ What size of gong do I want?

Are you going to be transporting it often, or will it stay put? Do you want a gong you can play while holding it or one that will stay on its stand?

3️⃣ How much weight am I willing to transport?

I pack, load, unload, set up, pack, load, and unload ALL of my sound equipment for every sound bath. For this reason, I really wanted a 26” gong, however, the universe had other plans and brought me Anastasia, who is a 38” big beauty Grotta Sonora Gong 😅

4️⃣ What kind of sound tones do you like?

All gongs sound different based on their material, size, how it is made, and how it is played. When I was gong shopping, I watched 1000 gong videos to see what kind of gongs I really liked. Then I went shopping and found my love.

5️⃣ How much do I want to spend on my gong?

Keep in mind that things like mallets, stands, cases, friction mallets, and all other accessories are sold separately! You’d at least want to start with a mallet or two and a stand (unless you are buying a smaller gong for handheld use).

6️⃣ What kind of vibe or character do I want my gong to have?

Some gongs sound more traditional, clashy, metallic sound. Some, like Anastasia, sound spacey and ethereal 🔮 What sound resonates the most with YOU??

7️⃣ Am I devoted to my practice?

Purchasing a gong is a big move for a sound practitioner! Not only financially, but it’s not something you want to purchase for shits & gigs. You must have devotion & respect for your practice and your instruments. Otherwise, that energy will leak out into your sound baths. In my humble opinion 😉
